"WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT SALMON?"
EXPERT APPEARS ON "LET'S TALK WATERWAYS" TO PROVIDE ANSWERS Many problems are occurring in our waterways that are threatening the health and sustainability of Salmon. While too many to innumerate, a few controllable events include: destruction of spawning grounds by logging industry dirt road runoffs, salmonoid disease from contaminants trapped behind hydroelectric dams, safety issues regarding farm-raised salmon, and now, drilling in the Alaskan Bay. Should we care about the decline of salmon runs? Is salmon safe to eat? These are some of the questions that Monica Coleman will be asking her guest on the next "Let's Talk Waterways" radio show, to be aired this Friday, May 11, 2007, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. EST. Craig Weatherby, of Vital Choice Seafood, will be on hand to answer these and other questions for the listening audience. "On the show, we've talked about the health issues involving fish and the problems with sustainability, particularly in sensitive species, like salmon," Ms. Coleman explains. "My listeners want to know whether salmon is really important to their diet and whether it is safe to eat. It helps them determine whether they want to get involved in helping to clean up the problems," she adds, "and I am confident that Mr. Weatherby has valuable information that my listeners want to hear." Ms. Coleman indicated her call to Mr. Weatherby, asking him to appear and answer the issues raised by her guests, was prompted by the science-based report he has written for Vital Choice Seafood on the health and nutritional aspects of salmon and omega-3 fatty acids, and the fact that the company comes highly recommended by world renowned medical experts, including Andrew Weil, M.D., Nicholas Perricone, M.D., and Christiiane Northrup, M.D. "People are more likely to get involved in saving their waterways and marine wildlife if they understand why it is important to them, and salmon is a three-pronged problem." Ms. Coleman goes onto explain, "First, there is reputable medical evidence suggesting that salmon is important in our diet, yet, there are legitimate concerns about how to determine whether the specific salmon we eat is helpful or hazardous to our health. And finally, with what is happening in our waterways, there is a question whether salmon will be around in the future. These are questions in which everyone should want answers!"
